If you wear aligners
Day to day
- Take your aligners out only to eat and to brush your teeth; the rest of the time, keep them in.
- Change to the next aligner always before going to sleep.
- Always keep them in their case, never in a napkin or a piece of paper: it's the easiest way to lose them.
- Attend your monthly check-up appointments regularly.
Cleaning
- Clean them every day with mild soap and rinse them with cold water.
- You can finish cleaning them with water and squeezed lemon juice, or water and white vinegar.
- Avoid very hot water.
It's normal...
- To notice more saliva than usual in the first few days, or a drier mouth.
- To find some sounds, such as "s", a little harder to pronounce at first.
- Not to see the change from one day to the next: be patient, teeth move little by little.
Lost an aligner? Call the clinic straight away and follow the instructions we give you.
If you wear braces
Hygiene
- Brush your teeth and braces after every meal, at least 3 times a day, for 2 minutes.
- Any toothbrush (electric or manual) and any toothpaste will do.
- Use interdental brushes to clean between the brackets.
- There is special dental floss for orthodontic patients.
- Use the mouthwash we recommend.
- A water flosser helps complete your oral hygiene.
- Have a professional clean at the clinic once or twice a year.
Eating
- Avoid hard and sticky foods.
- Use a knife and fork and cut food into small pieces, so the brackets don't come off.
- If you fancy a sandwich, soft bread is better.
- Don't bite pens, nails, ice, etc.
Consistency
- Attend your monthly appointments regularly.
- Be patient: the result comes with time and your cooperation.
Has a bracket or another part come off? Stay calm, call the clinic and book an appointment with the orthodontist.
